UMD-TAPS at the University of Maryland

UMD-TAPS is the first TAPS program established in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region. While the region receives substantial rainfall during the growing season, precipitation is often irregular, leading to short-term drought stress that can necessitate supplemental irrigation to reduce production risk. The UMD-TAPS program provides participants with the opportunity to optimize irrigation management through the use of innovative scheduling technologies and decision-support tools designed to improve water use efficiency and crop performance.

Current Competitions

We currently host an irrigation corn and irrigated soybean competition, both located at the University of Maryland Wye Research and Education Center in Queenstown, Maryland. Our corn competition is sponsored by the Maryland Grain Producers Utilization Board, and our soybean competition is sponsored by the Maryland Soybean Board.
